(source: United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisational Report 2000).
We’ve teamed up with Garden Organic, a charity which conserves over 800 varieties of vegetables no longer in common use and facing extinction. We’ve identified 10 fantastic tasting varieties that are under threat and deserve to be saved. Take a stand against the bland and DIG YOUR DINNER!
How can you take part ?
Join Garden Organic’s Heritage Seed Library to access seeds from the collection, such as ‘My Girl’ Tomato, ‘King of The Ridge’ Cucumber and ‘Mrs Fortune’s’ Climbing French Bean. Visit www.gardenorganic.org.uk to join online. It costs just £20 to become a member and support the Heritage Seed Library’s conservation of Britain’s threatened vegetable varieties.
Alternatively grow some commonly available heirloom vegetables such as ‘Highland Burgundy Red Potato’, ‘Summer White Radish’ or ‘Snow Ball Cauliflower’.
